1/4/2023 0 Comments Oxford big read![]() ![]() This was the first time in the history of the Oxford Book Read Competition that Pakistani students triumphed at all three levels! As Generation’s Schools and as Pakistanis, we feel immensely proud of their accomplishments. Roshane Mehnaz from Grade VI and Maria Bukhari from Grade IX were the Regional Finalists at the Nationals from Level 2 and 3, respectively. Generian Eshal Rehan from Grade II was the 1 st Runner up at the National (Level 1). Zaid Faisal recounts his winning journey at the Oxford Big Read ![]() The International Jury Members then selected the Asia winners. The hundreds of entries were judged by an independent jury who selected the National winners who subsequently competed at the Asia Education Division against their top entries. At Level II, the students proceed to write something interesting about the book, and at Level III students were expected to write a critical review of the book. Well done, Zaid!Īt OBR Level I, students were expected to design a new jacket for the book they read, including the title, and were to write in two sentences about the book. We are very proud to announce that one of our Generians, Zaid Faisal, was declared the Asian winner (Level 3) at the 5th OBR Competition. ![]() The national winners were announced on 3 March 2020 and Asia winners on 31 July 2020. The OBR is a splendid opportunity to engage young students in reading & writing activities. Each school is free to select their own reading programme, (reading levels are not set by the National Curriculum) but Oxford Reading Tree levels remain widely used across primary schools.Pa kistani students outshined at the 5th Oxford Big Read (OBR) competition which was launched on 6 September 2019. The good news is that the book band levels are largely the same across all the publishers so whether you are looking at Bug Club reading levels or the Oxford reading levels, the book bands and age-related expectations remain the same. There are lots of great reading programmes: Oxford Reading Tree, Collins Big Cat, and more, which means there is plenty to choose from. Your child's reading level should be assigned at school but you can also try this simple test at home. Reading books used in primary schools are graded by level – also known as book bands, or for Oxford Reading Tree, stages. ![]() So how do you find a book that matches your child's reading age? Reading books that are well suited to your child's ability is really important in growing their confidence. Learning to read is an essential life skill and one that can give great pleasure.Īll the research shows that kids need to be read with (and read to) regularly – ideally every day – for them to become confident readers who are happy to absorb themselves in a book. ![]()
